A 26’ documentary directed in 2013 by Leyla Nedorosleva
In the early 19th century, the proximity of military actions makes the monks of the holy Mount Athos in Greece seek a new location for their monastery.
After a long search, the choice falls on the ancient capital of Abkhazia, Anakopiya, home of the kings of the Abkhaz and the place where the apostle Simon the Zealot found his refuge.
The outward similarity of the New and Old Athos is amazing, but the main thing is that the monks have managed to bring the spirit of the Holy Mountain here, to Psyrtskha.
The monastery was founded in 1875, maybe earlier and finished in 1888.
This film is not available in Abkhazia and we hold the non exclusive rights for Russia.
