Dance to the sounds of Bendirs
A 22' documentary directed in 1999 by Bernard Louargant
This film shows a new way of looking at "oriental dance", so frequently mislabeled in Western society as "belly-dancing."
It tells about the roots of "oriental dance", and shows how it is practiced through concerts and dance classes.
Historians and dancers describe the difficulty of, on the one hand, dancing for pleasure, showing one's femininity, and on the other hand, living up to expectations of a society in which religion and family impose certain rules on women.
